Is DAZ DS4 FBX (AD) export compatible with FragMotion FBX import (Alias)?
« on: June 04, 2012, 09:36:02 AM »

Has anyone had success exporting a figure from DAZ Studio 4 using FBX (any of their FBX autodesk versions, binary or ascii) and getting it to import into FragMotion?  If so, please share your export / import settings that were mot successful.  Thx.

why don't you try exporting your model as a .obj from DAZ?  then import into fragmotion.

RE: why not import .obj < Because that would defeat the purpose of using FBX as I want to bring over rig and some animation.   I discovered that I can by using Ultimate Unwrap to convert the FBX to .X and then bring it in animated.  Would be nice to get that FBX import/export capability fully working in Fragmosoft though.
Is development in this area continuing?

If you can provide a rigged/animated .fbx model that's causing problems, I'll try to get it working.

the only way I can get this to work is by:
- exporting as DAE from Daz Studio 4.5
- converting the output to an FBX 2009 ASCII format using the free Autodesk FBX converter
- importing the fbx into Fragmotion

it doesn't always work and there's usually some cleaning up to do as well in terms of hair or eyeballs in the wrong place

bear in mind that the daz models tend to be very high poly and you need the (not free) decimator program if you want to cut them down to size.

I've manage to import some of the Poser 2 low res models into Daz 3d first and they aren't too bad. Also good to use the Atlas (?) tool in Daz to amalgamate the textures into one file.
